I’m a Grammy!

Okay okay you win. I made the mistake of posting some recipes for a cookbook I’m reviewing instead of talking about me becoming a grandma and I got yelled at lovingly by a few of you. LOL! I guess sometimes I don’t think any reads my blog any more so I kind of stopped posting as much personal stuff on here but if you are still interested I’m all about sharing the love. *smile*

On Saturday, March 14 I became a grandma for the very first time. My first had her first and I can not begin to tell you how proud of her I am. I know many of you were telling me that becoming a grandmother is one of the best things ever and you are soooo right.

My daughter and son-in-love allowed me to be there the whole time. I arrived at the hospital right after they broke her water and she was about 3cm. Did I mention she was 2 weeks over due? Yeah, that’s the reason for the whole induction thing. Anyhoo, they of course were hoping that she would dilate quickly but that didn’t happen. She was given pitocin to help with contractions and they would come every 2 or so minutes. She labored this way for hours without much improvement. By the time she was 5.5cm she was completely exhausted and in  extreme pain. They finally opted for the epidural and she was able to rest and regain some energy. This in turn allowed her body to do its thing and before we knew it in less then 2 hours she went from 6cm to fully dilated and ready to push.

All the nurses flowed in and I honestly felt like this was my chance to do a stand up routine because there was quite an audience. But I resisted. Ha! My daughter did awesome. She pushed hard when she had too and made great progress each time. I believe some of that had to do with the fact that my son in love and I did some pushing right along with her. Hee! Hee! For some reason you can’t help it. Speaking of my son-in-love, he did awesome. For a first time daddy he did great. He was so strong for her and supported her so well. He did a great job!!

I don’t know if you’ve ever got to witness a birth before but it is one of the most beautiful things on the planet. Such a complete miracle. I pretty much had a front row seat by her knee caps and as soon as baby’s head was out I lost it and started to cry. He came out kickin’ and screamin’ just like he was supposed to. All 7lbs 4oz of him.

He was so aware right away. Eyes wide open and ready to take on the world. I on the other hand could barely keep my eyes open and had been up for almost 20 hours by then, but it’s not about me is it. LOL!

Here are a few pictures.

Mom and baby. She was so tired but so happy.

Sorry, I didn’t get a decent picture of them altogether yet. It’s been kind of a whirlwind and the one I got of dad and baby was blurry, so yeah. *smile*

It’s kind of weird being a grandparent yet still have young ones at home. I’m sure I’ll adapt. Ha!

Well there you have it, my Grammy birth story.

HUGS!

I'm sure you'll adjust quickly.Being able to snuggle him and love on him but not having to do the early mornings will definitely be a bonus! :)
